I think (and maybe I'm remembering wrong) that the Vallejo Game Colour range was supposed to match (or parallel with) a lot of the GW range so that people could just switch over.

Mixing them is totally fine, each behaves a bit differently so having several makes gives you some more options. I use both and mix them together as there is vitually no difference but I've noticed model color tends to cover better while game color is more transparent. I also vallejo air color.
